CloudHotelier and Joomla! 3.x series

The Joomla! project announced in April the release of version 3.1, as the "the second minor release" of the Joomla! 3.x series. Many of you are asking us if CloudHotelier is compatible with Joomla! 3.x series, and the answer is no, by the moment.

The Joomla! project announced in April the release of version 3.1, as the "the second minor release" of the Joomla! 3.x series. Many of you are asking us if CloudHotelier is compatible with Joomla! 3.x series, and the answer is no, by the moment. Now I'm going to explain our current development status and our approach to Joomla! 3.x series.

Current development status

We are on heavy development to release CloudHotelier version 2.7 on the next week. This will be the latest version that will introduce new features in that branch. We are doing this bacause we want that every client able to upgrade and use the new features, like extras, promotions and packs, and detailed room info that we are introducing with 2.7. So, any already built websites, will be easy to update with the new version that will take advantage of all the new features.

Our approach to Joomla! 3.x series

We are already working on new templates that are built with Bootstrap and jQuery (the new default front-end tools that will be the standard in J3). This means that we are currently working in a "hybrid" versions that run on Joomla! 2.5 but are setting our new standard for Joomla! 3.x series. Take a look at this websites developed with CloudHotelier 2.7 alpha: http://artiemhotels.comhttp://www.candigus.com.

We will NOT formerly adopt Joomla! 3.x series till the release of Joomla! 3.5, as the "de facto" major release of this series. At this moment, we consider 2.5 a much more stable release that won't need major upgrades in the near future. Most of our clients, need a platform that remains stable and does not require complex tasks to keep it updated. We know that Joomla! will provide one click upgrade for it's core, but some of our costumers use 3rd party extensions and templates that may cause problems in the websites after that kind of major version upgrades.

When Joomla! 3.5 is released, we will release a brand new version, CloudHotelier 3.0, that will be designed exclusively to run on the new Joomla! 3 series. We will continue supporting Joomla! 2.5 and CloudHotelier 2.7, but we will not provide new features for that platforms.

Roadmap

In resume, this is our roadmap to the upcoming changes:

  • Next week: release of the new version, CloudHotelier 2.7, that will allow all users to use all of the new features.
  • End of the summer: release of the new templates based on Bootstrap and jQuery
  • End of the year: release of CloudHotelier 3.0 for Joomla! 3.5
